My favourite one is Izmailovo Flea Market close to Izmailovsky Park and Partizanskaya metro station in Moscow. I go there every couple of weeks with my parents and, every time, I see something new that wasn't there the last time.  At Izmailovo Flea Market, they sell everything under the sun, including clothes, food, electronics, and household goods. It's open every day from 8 am to 5 pm. This is where I go to buy jeans, t-shirts, trainers, DVDs, and computer games. My mum buys her clothes, bags, and shoes from here, too. She also buys fruit and vegetables from here because they are cheaper than from the local shops. I love shopping here. There are lots of hot food stalls, too and I usually get a type of kebab called a shashlik with some flatbread.  The only problem with this market is that you can easily spend more time and money than anticipated because there's so much to choose from and everything is reasonably priced. As it's an open-air market, this is fine in the summer, but in the winter you can only stay outdoors for a couple of hours so then we have to do our shopping quickly.  If you go right to the end of the flea market and keep walking you will come across the Izmailovo Vernissage. This is a different type of market that is very popular with tourists. It has great handmade souvenirs and traditional handicrafts such as table linens, ceramics, and wooden and leather goods. Basically, it is a souvenir hunter's paradise, with stalls offering nesting dolls, lacquer boxes, art, antiques, carpets, and much more. It's much cheaper here than in the city center, too. It's only open in the mornings during the week, but from 9 am to 6 pm at the weekends.

Your class is working on a weekly school social media post devoted to Family Day on the 8th of July. You and your friend need to post the stories about your classmates' relatives. Your friend has noted down some of your classmates' stories but now the notes seem to be mixed up. Read the notes and put the sentences into the correct groups. Ben: The two people that I'm closest to are my mum and my sister, Emma. There's only a year between Emma and me, and we get on really well even though we don't really have a lot in common. I tend to go to her for advice and I often confide in her. Then there's my best friend Callum. We're in the same class at school, and we also play in the same football team at the weekends — actually, he is probably the person I see the most! I also see my cousin, Harry, quite often. Finally, there's Tom Fisher, our football coach. He's really hard on us, and we're not always sure of what his mood is going to be, but he's a great coach. We wouldn't be top of the league without him! Mark: Apart from Mum and Dad, I'm also really close to my auntie, Julia. She's much younger than my mum, and she's more like a sister to me than an aunt. She's so outgoing and I really admire her. And obviously I'm really close to my identical twin brother, James, despite the fact that we spend a lot of time arguing! Outside my family and friends, there are two other people that are quite important in my life. The first is my maths teacher, Mr. O'Neil. I always used to hate maths, but this year I've started to understand it much better because of him. Then there's my judo teacher. He's great fun, and thanks to him, I'm about to get my black belt! Amy: Well, I suppose like the majority of people, I'm closest to my immediate family. There's my mum and dad, and my brother and sister, Nathan and Molly. My granny, Alice, has lived with us since my grandad died, and we all love her a lot! Despite the age difference, we really understand each other well. We've got the same terrible sense of humour! Other people that are important to me are my cousin Leah and my best friend, Lily. I always have a good time with them when we meet up! And finally, I've got to mention my tutor from school, Mrs. White. Everybody thinks she's a great teacher, but I really respect her because she's so patient with everybody, and she's always positive about life!

You are going to read an article where four students talk about their dream jobs. For questions (1-10), choose from the people (A-D). The people may be chosen more than once.

Read a magazine article about the adults who have met an old school friend again through social media and do the task below. Friends again Five people talk about the school friends they have met up with again thanks to social media websites. Nadia Hassan Although we’ve been living in different countries for a long time, I know I should have made more of an effort to stay in touch with Amina because we always got on well together, even though we’re quite different people. For instance, I’m much more ambitious than her and have no plans to start a family, whereas she already has two children. It’s quite a contrast in lifestyle, and although it’s great that we’re both content with our own lives – and we’ve enjoyed catching up with each other’s news – I don’t really know whether in the future we’ll have enough in common to keep the relationship going. Julia Nowak The first thing that struck me was that Natalia still looked much the same as she had ten years earlier, unlike some other people in their late twenties – especially those who have had serious personal issues to deal with during that time. She’s also still very keen on sports, which I’m not, but she remains as sociable as she ever was and I suppose we’re quite alike in that respect. In fact, she was one of the first people I thought of when the idea of contacting my old classmates occurred to me, and it’s great you can do that online so easily. Otherwise you could lose touch with them forever. Olivia Morgan Back in our school days I always liked Megan, but she was never keen on studying so I sort of took it for granted that she would end up doing a job that didn’t require qualifications. Now it turns out she went on to do really well academically and for two years was a Philosophy lecturer at a top university. The other mistake I made was being rather cautious about responding when she first got in touch with me online last autumn, when in fact as soon as we saw each other on the screen we started chatting again as if that ten year gap had never existed. I think we both quickly realised that we wouldn’t ever let anything like that happen again. Maite Silva I was delighted when Carla told me she has such a good job. Somehow I always knew she’d do well, though I must confess that back then she was the last person I would have imagined becoming an economist because she was pretty hopeless at maths. But when she appeared on my laptop screen after all those years I was impressed by how mature she sounded and looked, and in fact she might be having an influence on me. Ever since we met up again, I’ve found myself taking a more serious attitude to my career, with promotion now a real possibility. Yan Lin When I realised my old classmate Ming was trying to contact me I didn’t hesitate for a second in replying. Somehow I’d always known that one way or another we were bound to run into each other at some point, because when we left school we’d both gone off to do the same subject at different universities. What I hadn’t been prepared for, though, was the news that she’d had to interrupt her studies owing to personal problems. I expressed my sympathy, but she assured me she’d recovered and eventually graduated, and that since then she’s been working in advertising. Which of course is exactly what I do, too. Which person...

Read the text. Hello! My name is Kate. I’m eleven years old. I’m from Great Britain, and I am at Green School. When I was eight, my favourite subject was IT, but I did not like Maths. I didn’t get good marks at school. My Mum and Dad decided to teach me at home. I was glad and wanted to stay in bed all day long. But it was the other way around. First, I studied things I liked and found interesting. Then I realised that I didn't have enough knowledge of other subjects. At school, Maths was boring, but now it is useful for making my models on my computer. Was it bad to study at home? Not really. I was sorry that I couldn't play with my friends, but I could do it at weekends, and we talked about school. Some weeks I studied more than they did. Other weeks I didn't study much. And I never had homework! Mark the statements as True, False or Not stated.

Agatha Christie was a famous English crime writer who is best known for her detective stories featuring Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. Agatha was born in 1890 in the seaside town of Torquay in Devon, England, to an American father and an English mother. Her family was well-to-do and conservative, and she was the youngest of three children. Although Agatha never attended school, she didn’t lack education. She taught herself how to read when she was only four and later her parents hired tutors to provide lessons in subjects such as music, dance, mathematics, and French. Agatha was a shy child and, having problems expressing herself verbally, she first turned to music and later to writing and became very good at making up stories. When she was eleven, her father died, and she became very close to her mother, with whom she started to travel a lot. During the First World War, Agatha worked as a nurse in a hospital, and it was during this time that Agatha Christie got the idea of writing a detective novel. Although she finished the story in a year, it wasn’t published until five years later. The Mysterious Affair at Styles introduced the retired Belgian police officer, Hercule Poirot, to the world and was a great success. Following this, Agatha would write more than 30 novels featuring Poirot. In all she wrote over 66 novels, the most famous being Murder on the Orient Express, and according to the Guinness Book of records, Agatha Christie is the best-selling writer of her time with over four billion books sold throughout the world. In 1971, she was awarded the high honour of Dame of the British Empire before passing away peacefully on 21st January 1976.
